Perth Sneaker Swapmeet and BASEketball tournament

The next sneaker swapmeet will take place as part of the William Street Festival on Sunday March 18th. As well as the swapmeet there will be live DJ’s, vintage LA Lakers games in the microcinema and a BASEketball tournament!

Swapmeet: Trade vintage kicks, jerseys, snapba...cks and even basketball cards. $10 per table for sellers (must register prior) and free for buyers. Tables and shade provided.

Microcinema: 2000 WCF Lakers vs Portland game 7. After a massive Portland collapse in the last quarter, Kobe and Shaq move into their first NBA Finals series together. 2002 WCF Lakers vs Sacramento game 7 overtime thriller. Free entry.

BASEketball tournament: 16 team (3 players per team) elimination series. Same rules as the movie. With the William Street Festival being family friendly, we will leave the ‘psych-outs’ to a minimum. $5 per player. The winning team will get to keep the portable basketball system (valued at $200) that will be purchased specifically for the event.

Rules: Round of 16 and QF 3 innings, SF and GF 5 innings.
Three-throw line = single, Three-point line = double, Quarter court = home run
Miss = out, Tip-in = double play

With any luck he'll get down and shake his ass to the beats and get the crowd laughing along with him Second Up is Freekstyles representing Sound Magnetiks , There a high energy act not to missed. Supporting the scene for a few years now, They certainly know how to get the crowd jumping ! This will be followed by a 25 minute Freestyle Session for emcees to jump on stage with Some local Talent including The Empty Cup and Syde FX to have a respectful freestyle. the instrumentals will be chosen by Arms In Motion (The Stoops) and you never know it might even try challenge some people. To finish the night off, Delirious will be setting the stage on fire (Not literally) with songs from his latest Ep. Stage 3: THE MYSTERY OF FLYING KICKS

This short film, which examines the social phenomenon of throwing sneakers over powerlines will be playing in the digital gallery for the fortnight leading up to the swapmeet. Produced with the help of the South Australian Film Corporation, it took out the Shorts Award at the 2010 Melbourne International Film Festival and this will be its Perth premiere.

Stage 4: EXHIBITION PRIZE

A judging panel will award the coveted Blue Ribbon Laces to the best sneakers in show on the day (male and female categories). Wear ‘em, bring them in the box or in a diamond encrusted case, show off your most prized pair to win. Criteria includes rarity, look & design plus the story of how you acquired them.
